CPAWS Running Wild 10k Race

Date: May 15th, 2005 (Sunday)
Location: Fish Creek Provincial Park, Glennfield Area
The Route: Start/Finish at the Glennfield Picnic Area. The 10km heads east running through the beautiful Fish Creek Provincial Park.
It was a beautiful morning. I was not feeling that great, but I pulled it out with some Tylenol. The Fish Creek Provincial Park was a little bit hard to find, but with the little map provided we managed to find without much trouble. We arrived one hour earlier to visit the informative educational display booths. Those were set up at the staging area of the race for participants and supporters to learn more about challenges facing Alberta’s wilderness and what positive steps you can take to help. They had fresh organic orange juice too! We met Phil there as well. What a surprise! He did is 5k while Kerry and I did our first 10k of the year. We kept a pace of 6 minutes per kilometer during the first 5 kilometres. Then in the turning point, I did advance for a bit until I reach the 8k point. During the 7k to the 8k distance Kerry passed me easily. He finsihed in 61 minutes and I did finsih in 63 minutes. It was not a great time at all. Because my time did not improve. But considering a serious of factors (strong heat, cramps and first race of the year) I am happy to finish. Next race will be the challange Kananaskis! Lets see...
