12 Week Pregnancy (Semana 12 de Gravidez)

Yes. Not many may know, but I am pregnant and this week is going to be week 12. Which means that by now, nearly all of my baby's organs, structures and systems are fully formed. My baby's tiny heart begins pumping several quarts of blood through my baby's body every day. While the baby's brain is not the same size it will be at birth, it does have the same structure. The baby's fingers and toes have separated and his hair and nails continue to grow. And he/she is approximately 2.5 - 3.5 inches and weighs about 12 - 14 grams.
Also, the external genitals can now show definite signs of male and female sex, however it will probably still be impossible to tell by ultrasound whether I am having a boy or a girl. Where there was only reflex movement before, my baby now moves spontaneously and at random, but he/she is still too small for you to feel him. With the use of a
Doppler, I might be able to hear my baby's heart beat at your next doctor's office visit. It will sound very fast and will sound similar to that of running horse.
There are a mix of emotions and feelings, but above all the feelings there is one that is the most important: RELIEF. The critical stage is passed and now the risk of miscarriage is reduced tremendously. Now, I can enjoy and relax a bit. Next doctor appointment on August 08th 2005.
